A NEW SERVICE AT THE DOWNING CLINIC: ROLFING
We are excited to bring Kathleen Strauch, a Certified Rolfer, to our clinic as a practioner. Kathleen is a well-established Rolfer who takes the time to go back for refresher courses and exams to keep her certification. There are very few Certified Rolfers in this area.
Rolfing is a technique that helps move the body back into proper alignment. When bony structures of the body are in balance and allow the force of gravity to flow naturally through the body, fewer demands are made on soft tissues, muscles, tendons and ligaments to compensate. When body parts are working properly and the structure is correct and integrated, movements flow more easily and good health and sense of well-being are enhanced. Rolfing can serve to help realign structural relationships of the body with such things as scoliosis, poor posture, and hip imbalance, or after childbirth, accidents, overuse, surgery, degeneration, stroke, and to help relieve deep pain due to improper alignment of tissues.
The Institute of Rolfing was started in 1971 by Ida Rolf. Rolfing usually starts with a series of ten treatments fairly close together to start the process. Once moved, tissues need time to re-learn relationships and for the body to get used to new alignment. After the initial ten, periodic followup treatments help keep what has been gained, and can move to even more improvements. Often, exercises are prescribed to aid the process.
Kathleen decided to become a Rolfer after suffering pain and loss of function from a terrible motor vehicle accident. She suffered for several years without help from traditional care and pain relievers. Only after she found a Rolfer who treated her did her symptoms improve.
Prior to becoming a Certified Rolfer, Kathleen was an attorney. She loves her new career and has helped many people during the many years she has been practicing.
Call 248-625-6677 for your appointment with Kathleen who will start in September.
